THE New Zealand senior team to race in the Oceania slalom kayak championships has been selected after four rounds of trials on Kawerau’s Tarawera River.

The selection trials finished at the weekend with Johann Roozenburg from Rotorua winning Saturday’s men’s kayak races, while Mike Dawson won Sunday’s men’s race.

The New Zealand men’s team for the Oceania championship consists of Dawson, Roozenburg and Aaron Osborne from Rotorua, while the women’s team is Luuka Jones from Tauranga, Tania Perrett from Nelson and Louise Jull from Otaki.

Perrett won Saturday’s women’s race, while Tauranga junior Ella Nicholas won Sunday’s racing.

In the canoe class, James Dawson and Mark Yungnickel will race for New Zealand in the men’s singles, while Bryden Nicholas and Andrew Robinson will race in the men’s canoe double.

The Oceania championships are an Olympic qualification event and will be held on March 15 and 16 in Sydney.
